EAR TUMORS

Ear tumors can occur in the outer ear, middle ear or inner ear. Each with a different form of presentation. Ear tumours can be benign or malignant and treatment depends on the type of tumour and location. Ear tumours are best evaluated by an ENT doctor with training in Otology and Neurotology.

The following are benign ear tumours:

  • Acoustic neuroma
  • Adenoma
  • Cholesteatoma
  • Facial neuroma
  • Glomus tympanicum
  • Paraganglioma of ear and neck
  • Osteoma
  • Exostoses
Malignant ear tumors include:
  • Basal cell carcinoma
  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Melanoma

Ear tumors may have the following symptoms:

  • Pulsatile tinnitus
  • Blocked ear or hearing loss
  • Recurrent bleeding
  • Recurrent ear discharge
  • Chronic ear pain
  • Previous history of radiation to the head and neck region
  • Facial asymmetry
