Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness

PPPD

Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness, or PPPD for short, is a condition wherein one experiences vertigo and/or unsteadiness caused by environmental and/or social reasons.
PPPD can be caused by a variety of reasons, including:
  • Vestibular migraines
  • Panic attacks
  • Anxiety
PPPD is often characterised by the following symptoms:
  • Dizziness and vertigo occurring on most days for 3 or more months
  • Dizziness or non vertiginous giddiness worsened by looking at complex, moving objects
  • Severe distress and functional impairment due to dizziness

TREATMENT

Treatment for PPPD can include the following procedures:
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Vestibular rehabilitation therapy
  • Prescription medication
